# Correcting a Mistake

### What this is

This guide shows you how to fix incorrect information in the system.

***

### When to use this

Use this when:

* A visit was entered incorrectly
* The wrong patient, compound, lot, or quantity was selected
* Information needs to be updated after saving

***

### Important

Mistakes should be corrected in the original record.

👉 Do not create new records to fix an issue unless your clinic specifically requires it.

***

### Step 1: Identify the mistake

Confirm:

* What was entered incorrectly
* Which record is affected (patient or visit)

Be specific before making changes.

***

### Step 2: Open the correct record

* Go to **Patients** or **Visits**
* Find and open the affected record

👉 Make sure you are editing the correct patient or visit

***

### Step 3: Make the correction

Update the incorrect fields, such as:

* Patient information
* Visit details
* Compound
* Lot
* Quantity

***

### Step 4: Review before saving

Confirm:

* The updated information is correct
* The compound, lot, and quantity match what actually happened

***

### Step 5: Save changes

* Click **Save**

***

### Step 6: Verify the update

After saving:

* Confirm the record is correct
* Review the audit log if needed
* Confirm inventory reflects the update

***

### If you cannot make changes

If your role does not allow editing:

* Contact a manager or clinic admin
* Explain exactly what needs to be corrected

***

### Common mistakes

#### Creating duplicate records

Always correct the original record when possible

#### Editing the wrong record

Double-check before making changes

#### Not reviewing inventory impact

Changes may affect inventory

***

### Important

All changes are tracked in audit logs.

This means:

* Edits are visible
* History is preserved
* Corrections should always reflect what actually happened
